When in San Antonio....

Back from a wonderful weekend. The weather was perfect - sunny, mid 70's with just a slight breeze. Perfect is the only word. On the way, we stopped at the Shiner Brewery. I figured I should pay homage to a drink I imbibe regularly. Next time you are in the store buying your favorite brew, pick up a six pack of Shiner Bock and know that you are drinking a little piece of Texas.

Our hotel was about 25 steps from the Alamo. The hotel is the tall building to the left.

We went to see the Imax movie about the Alamo. That's where I met this guy. He used to be a model for Foley's but got drafted by the Mexican Army. I'm thinking he was downsized due to the run-in he had with an ugly stick.

Saturday we decided to walk to the Mexican Marketplace, thinking it was just a few blocks. Well, we were only off by about a mile. I decided it would be a great time to check in....

Saturday night we went to a comedy club. I was having my doubts when the m.c. who was at least 70 opened the show and one his jokes was this:

"I still like porn even at my age. Except now I watch Debbie Does Dialysis" !! Hardy-har-har. Like I haven't had to hear every rendition of that movie all of my life. Luckily the next two comics were hilarious. Especially, J.J. Ramirez, the headliner. He brought up an obvious out of the closet dike of a lesbian onto the stage and made her play "The Dating Game" with three guys. My stomach hurt from laughing so hard.

Here are the things I learned while in San Antonio:

1. Don't go to San Antonio if you don't like Mexican food.
2. The Riverwalk is a major tourist attraction and very nice.
3. In January they drain the river and it becomes a giant pit of mud.
4. It isn't quite as romantic to sit next to a pit of mud and have dinner.
5. Walking by the Alamo at night can be a little scary.
6. Watermelon margaritas are quite tasty.

  • That comic is SO FUNNY. I wish I could've seen that one with the Dating Game!! Argh. I watch Comedy Central a lot, so you never know, right?

Okay, you checked in, but you didn't mention- hot sex?? Speak to those of us who ain't gettin' any.

  • Oh, did I forget??? Yes. Lots of it. In fact, the poor hubs had to go to bed at 8 pm tonight. I completely wore him out.

  • I "heart" San Antonio! I didn't know that about the draining of the riverwalk though! HA!

Go again with girlfriends and hit a spa on the riverwalk. A friend of mine had her "bachelorette" party there which ended up being a weekend of pampering, margaritas and great food with great gals.

We plan to go this summer with the kids. The marketplace is awesome too. Our favorite Mexican food place is there. I'm blanking on the name, but it is on the corner and it has a huge bakery in it.

Glad you had a fun trip!

  • Poor hubs. *Eye roll* I'm so glad you guys had a good mini-break!! I love comedy clubs. Nothing like having an excuse to laugh. I LOL'd at the wax figure too. Could they make him any UGLIER?

  • Yay for weekend getaways and watermelon margaritas! Sounds like you guys had a blast what with all the booze and the hot sex. At this point, I would settle for a sexual encounter with J that does not involve procreation.

  • Me and the riverwalk don't mix. I think its all the trash thats normally floating in it.

Our "romantic" NIGHT away is in May. Alcohol and playing dirty, here I come!

  • Crazy Momcat: The restaurant is Mi Tierra and I also love it! We have cookies for breakfast the morning after we have eaten there! Breakfast of champions.

I also heart San Antonio. Last spring break I took my 7 yr old son - we stayed at the Davy Crockett and looked over the Alamo. We went to the re-enactment of the fall of the Alamo, and the early morning ceremony where the fallen are honored. Neat weekend!!!

  • Sounds like a great time! I am glad you had so much fun. By the way, It is good know that people actually DO "Remember the Alamo!" (Sorry.... but somebody had to say it!) Never been down that way my south....forgot all about it!

P.S. I think the wax dude is smokin' hot!.....those pouty lips........those smoldering eyes.....those broken stump fingers......HOT!!

  • ........Let me revise that.....

"Never been down that way my SELF (not my SOUTH)." ...Ooopppsss.... It's scary to think I teach our children isn't it! Maybe I will try that 'preview' feature next time! :-)

  • Ahhhh, thanks for sharing your vacation. Give the hubby some vitamen E and he will be good to go in no time.

I love comedy clubs and if it weren't for laughter, I would not ever work out my stomach.
